Shotblasting Process

Shotblasting is a process in which an abrasive material is forced through a jet nozzle using compressed air pressure. This creates a fast and effective way of cleaning or preparing surfaces for recoating using many different material types.

The material types normally used in the shotblasting process are:

SAND    This the most common material used on applications. The grade of the sand used will vary the type of finish of the material being cleaned
GARNET    This is a sharp, hard abrasive which is used to prepare surfaces on non-ferrous metals before re-coating
CHILLED IRON    A re-useable abrasive material with the same qualities as Garnet. This material should not be used on machinery that is exposed to moisture.
OLIVINE    A soft abrasive material for use on decorative stone or non-ferrous metals.
GLASS BEADS    This is a soft abrasive material used to polish rather than remove surface coatings. used on soft metals and plastics.
